Lions Club After 5

Beginning in April, the Canton Lions Club will host “Canton after 5:00” at the Trolio Hotel on the square.  The second Tuesday of each month, April, May, June and August, the Lions Club will host a guest presenter along with light refreshments beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Our downtown merchants will offer extended hours and specials for your shopping enjoyment.

The series will feature;

  • April 9 - David Rich, owner of Rich Grain Distillery.  Mr. Rich will showcase signature cocktails and a tasting of his locally distilled bourbons.  Cost $15

  • May 14 - Sherry LaCour and Wanda Baldwin will present butterfly gardening.  Those attending will have the opportunity to engage in a plant swap. Cost $10

  • June 11 - The program is “Learning to be Smarter with Social Media”.  Braley Reed, the Public Information Officer of the Canton Library, will be on hand to teach our group some neat tricks with using Facebook and Twitter to advance our businesses, connect with friends and family, sell unwanted items, and enhance our lives while enabling security features to keep us safe. Also, enjoy some wine and light hors d'oeuvres. Cost $10

  • August 13 - Erin Noble and Jane Foster will kick-off football season with a tailgate setting for refreshments.  Tailgating recipes will be shared with those attending. Cost $10

Tickets for these events may be purchased by calling the Canton Tourism office (601-859-1307), at, or at the door.  Tickets are $15 for the first event and $10 for the remaining features with all profits going toward the Lions Club cleanup projects around town.

The Lions of Canton appreciate the support and help of the Canton Tourism Office, Johnny Stewart and local merchants to make these events possible.  We sincerely hope our community will come and experience our downtown square through a social setting designed purely for the fun of being together with neighbors and friends.

2019 Young Filmmaker's Workshop

2019 Young Filmmaker's Workshop

This year we have again partnered with the Madison County Library here in Canton to put on the Canton Young Film Makers Camp! The library has put into place great new state of the art equipment as well as a new sound booth. With all the new additions we were able to partner with them for the equipment and instructors this year and we were able to get the cost of the camp down so more kids will be able to participate and experience the fun and exciting time your child has at film camp. We will keep the same format as in years past but will add a few new and exciting elements to the camp! Parents will pick up and drop off campers at the Canton Library every day for camp. New Balloon Fest event whets appetites in Canton

Canton launches a new event this year on July 5, whetting appetites and boosting the regional appeal for the Fourth of July and Mississippi Championship Hot Air Balloon Fest weekend.

An SCA-sanctioned steak cookoff on the historic Canton Square combines cooking sport with live music, beer, kids’ fun, hot air balloons, shopping and small town charm, 6-9 p.m. on July 5. That puts it right in-between the Celebrate America Balloon Glow in Ridgeland July 4 and the Mississippi Championship Hot Air Balloon Fest events July 6 at the Canton Multipurpose Center.

“When you think Fourth of July, you think grilling outdoors,” says Canton Tourism executive director Jana Padgett. “In my mind, it’s got to work!”

The aroma of sizzling meats and smoky goodness work their own magic. “If somebody’s grilling something, I’m hungry already,” says Van Waites, event organizer. Anyone can enter, from backyard grill masters to catering pros, and vie for cash prizes and bragging rights on steaks and wings.

This is Canton’s first competition sanctioned by the Texas-based Steak Cookoff Association, which is projected hold more than 300 contests worldwide this year. An SCA representative runs the steak cookoff and the promoter provides the steaks, with a first place payout of $1,000 for the steak cookoff winner, and prizes up to fifth place.

Event proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Southern Outdoors Unlimited and its mission to introduce children with disabilities to the outdoors.

The new street party in Canton will celebrate all forms of outdoor cooking. Barbecue aficionados and more are expected, with tasty samples as they compete for the People’s Choice Award, determined by public voting. A $10 wristband buys the way for food sampling, one drink ticket and a vote. Food truck vendors will be onsite, too, to round out the offerings and hard rocking country music from the band TRADEMARK will keep the party hopping.

On July 6, the fun starts early with the Ballon Chase Bike Ride and Competition Flight at the multipurpose center, then kicks into high gear that evening with the festival and fireworks after dark. Good Samaritan’s $5,000 Golf Ball Drop Fundraiser is an annual highlight. “We want folks to know that they can have a great time, and yet make a difference for our community,” says Good Samaritan executive director Kathy Clem.

Here’s the rundown of July 4 weekend events:

Thursday, July 4: Celebrate America Balloon Glow at Northpark Mall in Ridgeland, with country artist Phil Vassar, opening act Burnam Road, and fireworks, 6-10 p.m. It’s free.

Friday, July 5: Steak cookoff and barbecue competition on the Canton Square, music from TRADEMARK, kids’ activities and more, 6-9 p.m. It’s free ($10 wristband for food samples). Register for the SCA-sanctioned steak cookoff at

Saturday, July 6: Activities at the Canton Multipurpose Center include 7 a.m. Balloon Chase Bike Ride and Competition Flight; 6-9:30 p.m. Balloon Festival; 6:30 p.m. Balloon Chase Run/Walk and Kids One Mile Run; 7:30 p.m. Balloon Glow and band Dirt Road Cadillac; 8 p.m. Good Samaritan’s $5,000 Golf Ball Drop Fundraiser; 9:15 p.m. fireworks. It’s free (register for bike ride, run and fundraiser at or onsite).

Canton Christmas Festival

Canton Christmas Festival

November 23 - December 23, 2018

Canton’s Christmas festival creates memories with new attraction

Once again, more than 200,000 twinkling white lights will sparkle and light up the city’s Historic Courthouse Square, bringing the magic and nostalgia of the holidays, along with thousands of visitors, to Canton. We are proud to announce our new title sponsor Trustmark Bank.

Back this year is the interactive Christmas Village, giving children the opportunity to make reindeer food for Santa’s reindeer to eat on Christmas Eve. Frosty will be near his igloo handing out marshmallows to roast by his fire, and Santa’s elves will pass out magical classes that make the Christmas lights in Canton come to life in special shapes!  The interactive Christmas Village is designed to allow children to take home their memories from the Canton Christmas festival while creating special memories with the characters.

To take full advantage of the festival’s breathtaking night-time views, festival hours will be 5-9 p.m. Nov. 23-25. Activities will start back up for nightly festival fun Nov. 30 - Dec. 23. From 5 to 9.

Throughout the month, several merchants around the Square will have extended holiday hours and will offer a respite from the hectic, big-box-store experience. Shoppers can stroll the sidewalks and enjoy the season, immersed in lights and holiday music, as they pop into gift shops, vintage stores and boutiques for unique items, special sales and samples.

Light and character parades, at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturday nights throughout the festival’s run, enhance the family fun with a chance to meet favorite princesses, superheroes and more.

The city’s animation museums, which were completely redecorated for the 2018 holiday season, will be open from 5-9 p.m. The historical museum features replicas of past merchants on Canton’s Historic Square; the other museum will delight youngsters with themed Christmas trees, including animation penguin figures enjoying a winter day around the park!

Additional festival highlights include: Sip ’n’ Cider 5-9 p.m. December 14: Mrs. Claus’ Story Time, 6-9 p.m., horse and buggy rides, trolley rides and miniature  train and fire truck rides around the Square, an old-fashioned carousel,  as well as photos with Santa nightly throughout the festival.  Be sure to check out the newest ride, the sky race located on the courthouse square grounds.
